The ‘Curved Stitching’ technique is a method I’ve been exploring. It uses all straight stitches to form these wonderful shapes and patterns. The pentagons are created within the normal C 8 marking. Each of the 8 6-way centers holds 3 pentagons.

Same design but the 2nd, the green dominant one has different proportions to the design elements. I missed an essential design detail in the first, purple dominant one. The little triangles at the big triangle centers. Made them with the 2nd ball. Hooray! Both are the same circumference, believe it or not. Perception is everything. I started my initial rows closer to the pentagonal pole centers with the 2nd, leaving a bit less space for the green rows to build up, this also allowed the big triangles to get bigger. The difference between these two is a great reminder of how very much I still have to learn and take into consideration when figuring out how to begin a new design.
Color dominance and the differences between them, has me contemplating even a 3rd one. Perhaps in the colorway of the original design in Cosmo 3.

What a huge and complex Temari puzzle. The Temari Challenge mentor group I learn with had a photo with Japanese instructions. The size is what was clear at the start but no real idea on how to proceed, at least for me. Once again 2 layers stitched at the same time, one row of each at a time. Now as I begin a second one putting all the ‘learning’ from the first into play I can see what I missed in the order of the final stitching pathways. I missed some small triangles at the edges of larger triangles that form by weaving under and over previous rows. I hope my 2nd attempt will be the one that engages these additional triangles into the overall design. More to come……..fingers crossed.
Temari Hot’s Work in Progression

The glowing bands of the hexagons are complete. The addition of a single red line around each diamond really set up a wonderful accent to the bands.Step 3 was to begin a pattern of inter-laid Hexagon’s over the pentagon grid, every row a progression of yellow to red at the center and back to yellow.
43.5cm. cir., 5.6” dia. Step 1 was to Mark the sphere with C 10 structure. Step 2 was to embroider the pentagons.

The 2nd Temari in this design group. C 10, wrapped bands inter-woven, stars inter-woven at each of the primary centers. 44 cm. diameter, and 5.25” dia. When you scroll back several entries you will find the 1st Fall color Temari using this same formula. I love the movement and rhythm of this design.
Temari, the Geometry of 5 & 3.

Some are over layered, some are interwoven, some both on the same sphere. Numbers and forms dominate the designs. 12 and 32 centers show up. #1, governs the cosmos, creativity, capacity. #5, pentagon, Earth, divine breath, spirit, tree of life. #3, heavens, unity of oneness/duality equation. #32, justice. It’s an interesting exploration of numbers. All range from 3.5” diameter up to 4.5” diameter. This is the heart of mathematics for me. It is also my happy place. Deep into the creative pool with little outer interference is my place of choice I guess.
