We came together recently in Tacoma, Wa. The time together was fruitful and best of all fun. Kathy, Jane, Marilyn, Dolores, Carol, Barb and myself. We are each students and teachers of this amazing medium, Temari. The idea that we each began with a small and simple Temari, taught ourselves from books, online connections and in person classes along the way, was actually the common denominator. This was to my great surprize of course as I was thinking that the isolation of my island life limited my ability to learn. So all you fellow needle people out there, we’ve all found a few common sources for the ongoing instruction each of needs to keep learning and the inspiration to “just keep at it”. It’s a spectrum! If we keep on learning and connecting under the Temari umbrella, mentors and mentoring move in both directions. We each brought a basketful of skills and experience to this table from our own lives, more than just Temari. This amazing display of creative endeavor shows work from all skill levels, the new beginning basics all the way to divinely complex, awe inspiring, knock your socks off, “heavenly bodies”.
Seems like we learn and teach, at/in the same moment. Every change in color way makes every design a new and glorious orb of delight. I heard again and again the words, “oh look how she did that one”, “oh my, just doing that pattern with a slight change there made the whole design look completely different”.
Each one of us had questions about how to better our skills, to gather techniques that better enhance our abilities wherever we are on the Temari Spectrum. Guidance freely shared, encouragement flowing in all directions. The “oohing & aahing” a rhythm of it’s own.
