The 2nd Temari in this design group. C 10, wrapped bands inter-woven, stars inter-woven at each of the primary centers. 44 cm. diameter, and 5.25” dia. When you scroll back several entries you will find the 1st Fall color Temari using this same formula. I love the movement and rhythm of this design.

The Ticket Taker, a member of the Humor Parlor and Space Zoo. The guardian at the Pearly Gates, this being has evolved over many years. The various parts haveĀ  been, found, collected andĀ  combined from many sources. A cast off rubber mask that has been painted and fluffed out with Bison hair at ears, eyebrows and nose holes; a rubber spider, Halloween monster gloves, cotton knit tubing. All is mounted on a large industrial strap hook found decades ago in the junk stores of Superior, Wisconsin.

You reach inside one hairy nostril to give over your ticket to ride the “Last” bus. Scary, hairy and end of the line sweet. 23” wide x 33” high. Boo!

Golden Ribbon Temari

A golden globe, 68 cm. circumference, 8.25” dia. Ribbon has been applied to the 6 arms of a simple division marking. Interlocking diamonds fill each division area. Variegated perle cotton is used throughout. The tones of our fall changing leaves and pale turquoise skies have come together very sweetly. I look across the grassy wetlands in the late afternoon sunlight and everything is surrounded by this golden color. The changing leaves and sky become the background of it.

Most of the Temari I work on I ‘know’ what I want to do. This one I had a ribbon I wanted to use. At 3/4” i needed a ball that complimented this width so it had to be a big girl. I plotted the diamonds that work from the equator to the poles. When these were complete I just knew it needed something the spaces created in each wedge. I tried pinning a form and then cutting small paper triangles. Dithering around for a couple of days, and then pausing for a day with the ball out of sight. The small triangles graduate in size filling the wedge nicely.

Temari Entanglement 2

The fall colors really pop out on my new Temari. C 10, 52 cm. circumference, 6.5” diam. Big and bright, pulsing with the dance of fall leaves. This woven bands design was deceptive in it’s complexity. Until I actually began wrapping the bands and inter-locking them at every center, 32 of them, I expected it to feel similar to the C 8 previously published. The pattern and instructions provided through Barb Suess and Temarikai, thank you very much, showed just one viewing side. Although one does the same technique over the whole ball, that singular view didn’t register the extensive work needed to complete the ball. The first step with just the woven bands complete and the 2nd step of inter-weaving stars at all design centers have been a challenge for me. Always a grand feature to be learning something new and being swept away by the final display. Passion for this medium once again engaged fully.
